“One must cease to be a philosopher if one believes in the God who only comes to speech in the gospel.”
– Eberhard Jüngel
I happen to think the Jüngel is correct here. However, it is not philosophy that ends with the divine speech-act, but one’s status as a philosopher. Philosophy has a role to play, and it is an important one. Philosophy will always be in dialogue with theology, but it will never have jurisdiction over its content.
